Consider how we are swept up, from the moment of birth, by the world around us. Unprepared and misguided, we enter the stream and are carried along by life’s current. And if we are compelled to or through circumstances are able to grab on to some line from shore, we might pull up and gain some respite, a good drying out.
Early on, I took a book down from a shelf in a library and came to lessons preserved from 2500 years past. A prince, having forsaken his inheritance, had chose to walk into the world seeking redress for the hard truths of death and misfortune. After years of self-imposed study and trials, he surrendered to a quiet place, resolving to remain sitting until an answer arose. The insight, when it arrived, up-ended the popular notions about existense and purpose.
This insight and the path for implementing a personal change has survived and evolved over these thousands of years, and we are provided a branch to grasp on to for pulling up onto shore. From here, we can percieve and internalise a new set of disciplines, and from there re-enter the stream with our strengths and notions of reality.
