Perhaps it is too easy to see the tumult of the global community around us as good and evil struggles.
The suffering introduced by ethical systems based on rewards from supra-human beings may stand in the way of our fully realizing the powerful role we play as a life force on this blue planet. Generations of beliefs and prejudices color our capacity to interpret the relationships which result from life working within the biosphere, plants and animals, and the uber-animal “human”.
Life, as a force arising from the circumstances of matter and energy here on this planet, has progressed from single cells to combinations supporting animals and humans. The power to succeed and grow is within all life and we can develop a sounder vision of participation.
Here is our strength. In spite of the many differences in culture and beliefs over the history of man, we have commonly defined a field of power which speaks to all of us and provides the best conditions for enriching life. In every language, this idea of “love” encompasses a palette of strengths for supporting life. Within this palette are non-violence and cherishing life, forgiveness and acceptance, and compassion and equanimity. We enrich life through these acts of ”love”. They define the heroic, encourage our reproduction, support our relationships, provide healing, and enbolden our spirit when celebrated in our arts and cultures.
Practicing the dharma gains us the wakefulness to clearly see the power of these aspects of love. We can hold to a vision of life fully enriched by love’s palette. This global lifeforce growing within the field of love begins to move towards the universal…
