Practicing concentration through sitting meditation, and developing mindfullness through comtemplation, supports me in returning to a position of stillness for observing in an unattached way.

I understand the importance of my part in extinguishing the anxiousness arising from being in an unstable, impermanent reality. I experience ease as the anxiousness disipates placing me in the present moment, allowing an unattached observation of the mysteries before me.

The practice is not difficult, escaping the habits is the challenge. Like the flash of a momentary reflection of light, the insight may arise and just as quickly slip away. The ability to recognize the bright light at another time does not disappear once seen, but the move to stay in the light may be overcome by habitual movements in any other direction.

Seeing the wishfulfilling fantasies, the bodily cravings, the “housebuilder” of the mind at every moment, in unattached observation, blows out anxiousness like the flame of a candle. I walk a path each day placing myself in the experience of the reflected light.

The past is finished and the future undetermined. Life exists only in the now. Living exists only in the present moment. I rejoin my body and consciousness here in this moment as I sit in stillness.
